Event Details
This collection of photographs from Joseph Schwartz (1913-2013) celebrates the bonds of cooperation and understanding that are possible between human beings of all races.
Schwartz was born in the slums of Brooklyn, New York, and served as a combat photographer in WWII. His work often focused on the urban street scenes and working class citizens he knew from his childhood. He considered his camera a tool used to highlight the social and economic injustice of the times as well as to promote respect and understanding. His photographs have appeared at The Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture, among many other museums. He lived in Atascadero, CA from 1985 until his death in 2013 at the age of 99.
This exhibit will be on display on the 2nd Floor of the San Luis Obispo Library through March 7th.
